Sketch to Flash.

After working out the side view (much harder than you'd think!) I take the sketch into Flash and start overlaying shapes.


Franklin ended up looking too wide, which is why Flash is so great- I just scaled him down until he looked right. Unfortunately, the image compression here on planet Blogger seems to have done terrible, terrible things to him. I'm sad for you, viewer, who cannot see what he looked like to start with. It was awesome.


Irving was easier, with the exception of the tie. Don't mention the tie.

Getting a character to look right for the first time is only half the problem. The other bit is managing it again, and again, and again... This is the first time I've felt happy with how this particular gentleman looks.
